Would you like to learn how to teach Menopause Yoga?

I'm excited to announce that my book 'Menopause Yoga - A Holistic Guide to Supporting Women on their Menopause Journey,' will be published by Singing Dragon/Jessica Kingsley Publishing in the UK and USA in time for Menopause Month in October, 2021.

This book has been written for graduates and future yoga teachers on my training courses, as well as curious yoga practitioners who would like to learn more. It has a Foreword written by Dr Louise Newson, the pioneering menopause doctor who values a holistic approach to managing the menopause.

Although I was a newspaper journalist in my early career, this is my first published book and - as a woman in my 50's - it really does feel like an achievement, especially with my occasional menopause brain fog! If you're in the menopause you'll know what I'm talking about.

The inspiration for the book came from the wonderful women who trained with me on the 40-Hour Menopause Yoga teacher training course, which is accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga and Yoga Alliance Professionals. Their inquisitive questions, thirst for theory and our combined passion to learn more about the menopause meant that their training manual just became too big to print! So, I'm grateful to the team at Singing Dragon and Jessica Kingsley Publishing for professionally editing and publishing it as a book, illustrated with drawings by artist David Caines.

If you buy a copy, please remember to download the detailed class plans, with Step by Step instructions, on the publishers' website.

If you don't know me yet, I'm Petra Coveney - the creator and founder of Menopause Yoga™ - and I am both a senior yoga teacher and trainer and the first yoga teacher to become a member of the British Menopause Society for health practitioners. I went through my perimenopause in my 40's (back in the day when 'menopause' was a taboo word), and I am now in my mid 50's - five years post menopause, which I encourage women to view more positively as their Second Spring.

The book is a guide to support you and your students on their journey from perimenopause to post-menopause, guiding them through the changes in their minds, bodies and emotions.

Bringing together western medical science and the wisdom of eastern wellbeing for menopause education, this book helps yoga teachers to develop an understanding of the hormonal changes and how to support the women in their classes, as well as a practical guide to running workshops and classes.

Inspired by the seasons of a woman’s life and the traditional Chinese concept of post menopause as a Second Spring, my approach reframes the menopause transition as an opportunity for empowerment, health and healing.

The book is underpinned by my own experiences, years of research and the feedback from teaching women in menopause workshops, since 2011. The book includes yoga poses, breathwork, meditation and journaling techniques to help alleviate some of the main symptoms of the menopause, whilst also recognising that yoga can not replace the oestrogen hormone that depletes as we come to the end of our reproductive stage of life. The book also includes information on nutrition, natural remedies and hormone replacement therapy, Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, journal writing, holding space in women's circles, and mental health.

I'm especially happy that I was able to include special essays written by graduates from my training courses, on ethnicity and the menopause, early menopause caused by Premature Ovarian Insufficiency, illness and surgery. It also includes a yoga class for maintaining heart health, bone and muscle strength to help prevent osteopenia and cardiovascular disease in post menopause.

This is the dedicated resource for teachers on the Menopause Yoga™ training course and I really hope you enjoy it.
