The Teacher Training Course:

This teacher training course is accredited by both the British Wheel of Yoga as a Module and by Yoga Alliance Professionals as a 40-hour further teacher training course. This is the ONLY course in the world to provide this level of accreditation and qualifies you, as a gold standard teacher, to lead group classes and workshops.

 

Petra Coveney created Menopause Yoga in 2011, after many years of research following her own experience of peri and post-menopause in her 40s. She learned first hand the impact that this hormone imbalance can have on a woman’s body, mind and emotions. She was the first yoga teacher to become a member of the British Menopause Society for health practitioners and works with Dr Louise Newson and other menopause specialist doctors, nutritionists, psychologists and complimentary therapists.

 

She began running workshops in 2013 and formally launched Menopause Yoga, followed by the Teacher Training course launched in 2019, at Dr Newson's world acclaimed Menopause & Wellbeing Centre in Stratford Upon Avon. in 2020, she teamed up with Yogacampus.com the yoga education charity, to offer online versions of her live course. 

 

There are now over 300 qualified teachers in more than 15 countries all over the world. The first 11 courses were only open to women in a stage of the menopause, however, in 2021, the first course was opened to women teachers who are not personally in a stage of menopause. In September 2021, Petra launched a CPD (Continuing Professional Development) course for male and female qualified yoga teachers, which is recognised by the BWY.

The Menopause Yoga Approach:

Her ground-breaking training combines modern western medical science and the wisdom of eastern wellbeing, such as Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine.

 

Her unique practice has been honed poverties a decade of working with women in the menopause and includes specially adapted yoga poses, breathing techniques and meditation to help women manage some of their menopause symptoms such as anxiety, overwhelm, brain fog, insomnia, fatigue, hot flushes and irritability, joint and muscle pain. There is also a class for building bone density, muslce strength and heart health to help counter the risks of osteoporosis, sarcopenia muscle loss and cardio vascular disease.

 

It is important to note that yoga can not replace oestrogen in a woman's ovaries, which is the root cause of most menopause symptoms. As a member of the BMS, Petra includes Hormone replacement Therapy in her discussions about menopause management and her courses include a talk by a menopause specialist GP.

The Menopause Journey:

The process of moving through perimenopause to post menopause can take anything from 5-15 years, so this really is a journey. We need to become attuned to the hormonal changes in our bodies, our minds and emotions. This embodied consciousness enables women to  respond to its changing needs, and adapt our yoga practice at each stage.

This empowering training is set within a positive framework that promotes menopause as an opportunity for self growth and insight. As MY teachers you will support women and help guide them towards an awareness of their inner wisdom.

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THE MENOPAUSE YOGA COURSE?

Western medical science

At the end of this course, you will have a greater understanding of the hormone changes taking place in a woman's body and how this can lead to physical and emotional symptoms ranging from Hot Flushes, Dizziness, Joint and Muscle pain, nerve pain in legs and arms, Headaches, Anxiety and Panic Attacks, Irritability, Feeling Overwhelmed and low mood and lethargy.

You'll receive expert medical information, from a Menopause specialist GP, about the hormone changes affecting a woman's body and cognitive function, and guidelines on Hormone Replacement Therapy, as well as Nutrition advice for hormone balance from an expert nutritionist, and general guidelines on safe practices for women with weakened bones (osteopenia), which affects women in post menopause.

Eastern wellbeing

This is balanced by information about natural remedies and complementary therapies, and an overview of eastern practices Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Please note: this course does not give your detailed knowledge of these therapies, which require more in depth training.

Menopause Yoga

You will be able to teach 4 main Menopause Yoga sequences to help women manage the most common symptoms of menopause, how to modify poses for women attending your public group classes, how to Hold Space for women in menopause group discussions, and Journal writing to unlock women's wisdom and personal insight as the gateway to self knowledge and empowerment. This course does NOT qualify you to teach one-to-One classes to women.Menopause Yoga is a UK legally registered trademark with logo and the content is the copy right property of Petra Coveney.

 

Coursework:

 The course also includes Journal writing, and extra study opportunities with a library on videos content including guest speaker talks on Ayurveda, Qigong, Nutrition, Natural Remedies, TCM, Pelvic Floor health, Hormone Replacement Therapy, and many others.

Graduates of this course are able to join an international network of teachers and benefit from teacher talks, webinars oand other opportunities to engage with other teachers on this course. 

It is a unique course designed for both help you on your menopause journey and enable you to support other women.

Study resources

Trainees will be expected to watch have access to a library of videos including MY classes, Guest Speakers, Teacher Talks, and other webinars on marketing to help you to promote your events.

After payment, you will receive a Student pack with a reading list and Schedule. You will receive a digital Manual 2 days before the start date.

Course leader:

Petra is the first yoga teacher to become a member of the British Menopause Society (BMS) for medical and health practitioners and works with menopause specialist doctors. She works with Dr Louise Newson and GPs at Newson Health Menopause & Wellbeing Centre - in Stratford Upon Avon, who helped to launch the TT course in 2019 and has dedicated a video talk to teachers on this course. Petra also works with Dr Shahzadi Harper in her Harley Street menopause clinic, in London.

Menopause & Wellbeing Centre, Winton House, Stratford Upon Avon.

This 4-day intensive teacher training course is hosted at Dr Louise Newson's acclaimed Menopause & Wellbeing Centre in the heart of Stratford Upon Avon, in the Midlands. Although this is not an equipped yoga studio, the teaching room space is light and warm with bathroom and small kitchen facilities and being hosted in a working Menopause Centre makes the course more poignant. Dr Louise Newson who founded this centre practices yoga and encourages her patients to attend weekly yoga classes at the centre.

Guest Tutors:

  • We have the of an introductory talk about the biological and medical aspects of menopause from specialist Dr Jill Crowfoot.

  • Newson Health resident yoga teacher Lucy Holtom will lead a class on pelvic floor health.

  • Newson Health nutritionist Emma Ellice-Flint who is a  menopause specialist and has written two books - Happy Hormone Cookbook and a NEW histamine cookbook.

After the intensive 4-day course, you are expected to complete a minimum of 10 hours self study using the Menopause Yoga website teachers' library of classes, guest expert talks and webinars to support your coursework and post course study.

A mandatory Teaching Assessment takes place on the final day September 10th when you are required to teach a 15 minute short M yoga sequence. You have 3 eeks after the intensive course to submit your coursework and have access to the website resources for a year.

Winter 2021 - FULLY BOOKED

NOVEMBER - ONLINE TEACHER TRAINING COURSE. Book via Yogacampus website.

DATES: Main training days are held on Thursday's November 4th,11th, 18th and 25th from 10am - 5pm UK time.  There is a Welcome meeting on Wednesday November 3rd from 4pm-5pm UK time - and an online teaching practice session on Friday November 19th, from 3-5pm. These extra sessions are non-compulsory but advisable so that you can meet other teachers on your course and practice teaching to a larger group in a supportive environment.

There is a mandatory teaching assessment on Thursday November 25th for 15 minutes, and you coursework must be submitted by November 30th at 10am, 2021. Coursework is a lesson plan and a summary of a menopause Journal.

Times: 10am-5pm GMT (including a 1 hour lunch break from 1pm-2pm and several comfort breaks) 

Cost: £460 including accreditation from BWY and YAP, and Menopause Yoga accreditation badge and Yogacampus.com certificate of attendance.

This course is taught online and includes guest speaker talks with Dr Jill Crowfoot from Newson Health Menopause and Wellbeing Centre, and other experts as well as other guest speakers in recorded video and webinars on the Menopause Yoga website teacher's resources library.
